Trio Of Shark Sightings Reported On Cape Cod Over The Weekend

Sharks in July are a reality on Cape Cod. Here's where they've been spotted most recently.

CAPE COD, MA — Just a few days after a group of paddleboarders captured a photo of them in the water near a shark, the Cape continues to see a shark presence in the waters off the coast.

This, of course, comes as no surprise to locals or shark enthusiasts, but is something of great interest for those who spend their summers on the Cape.

According to Sharktivity, the shark tracking app, an unconfirmed shark sighting was reported Sunday off Lighthouse Beach, which followed a confirmed sighting on Saturday in the same area.

On Monday, Sharktivity confirmed an acoustic detection on a shark named Uncle Bill at the same beach.

Sharks perhaps have an even bigger interest this year in the region, as the landmark film "Jaws" celebrates its 50th anniversary.

The Boston Globe published a recent report saying the species is having a resurgence after years of accidental captures and recreational fishing had a negative impact on its livelihood. However, scientists told the publication that the rebound is a good thing, as sharks have a positive impact on the ecosystems in the area.
