Plymouth, Barnstable Senator Fernandes Looks Back On Time In MA House

BOSTON, MA — Today, Senator-elect Dylan Fernandes shared key statistics from his eight-year tenure as State Representative for the Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket District. Fernandes passed 36 bills in the House, including legislation establishing the state’s first commission on ocean acidification, requiring utilities to be more climate resilient, and signing Massachusetts onto the Paris Climate Accords, while also championing local issues for Falmouth, the Vineyard, and Nantucket.
“It’s been the privilege of a lifetime to fight for Falmouth, the Vineyard, and Nantucket as State Representative,” said Fernandes. “We pride our office on being responsive and effective and we’ve done just that - passing 36 bills through the House and helping more than 3,600 constituents get the support they need. There is more work to do and more people to help and I look forward to continuing to serve our region in the Senate.”

Fernandes also achieved:
- 36 bills passed by the House of Representatives
- $7.8 million in direct legislative funding secured for local priorities.
- $133 million in grant money awarded to district communities.
- 3,623 constituent cases opened to support residents in navigating government services.
- 2,234 stakeholder meetings to ensure the voices of local residents, advocates, and community leaders shaped legislative efforts.
Fernandes’s legislative tenure is marked by significant progress on environmental policy, housing affordability, and local bills. During his tenure, the legislature passed the most ambitious housing affordability bill in state history, tax cuts for working families, and protections for reproductive rights.
