Property Owner Meeting Scheduled As Falmouth Sewer Project Set To Advance
The meeting will discuss the Great Pond Phase 1 Sewer Project, with construction contracts to be awarded later this year.
FALMOUTH, MA — A property owner information meeting for the Great Pond Phase 1 Sewer Project is scheduled for Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Lawrence School Auditorium, 113 Lakeview Ave., in Falmouth.
In April of 2025, Town Meeting voted to appropriate $60 million to fund the construction of the Great Pond Phase 1 sewer project to improve water quality in Great Pond, and in May of 2025, the Town voted yes on Question 1, a proposition 2 ½ debt exemption for the construction of the Phase 1 project.
The construction contracts are expected to be awarded in November of 2025, and construction in the sewer area will start soon thereafter. The project is expected to take 2 years to complete, so the sewers are expected to be available for connection starting at the end of 2027.

Phase 1 of the plan to meet nitrogen limits for Great Pond involves sewering the northeast portion of the Maravista peninsula as well as the Teaticket Path peninsula, and the future Phase 2 will involve sewering the Acapesket peninsula, officials said.
The wastewater flow from the Phase 1 area is to be conveyed by a new lift station on Brick Kiln Road and new force mains to the Town's existing main wastewater treatment facility (WWTF). There, the wastewater will be treated, then discharged to the Town's existing open sand beds north of the WWTF under the Town's existing groundwater discharge permit, officials said.

In addition, the Town's plan for Great Pond water quality improvement involves fertilizer management, stormwater management, shellfish aquaculture in Great Pond, a potential permeable reactive barrier, as well as potential advanced nitrogen removing septic systems in the upper watershed.
The schedule for Great Pond Phase 2 sewer construction, and for future phases of sewering in Falmouth is dependent upon the Town permitting and constructing additional discharge for treated wastewater, officials said.
