Sandwich Boardwalk Reopening Celebration Scheduled For Wednesday
The celebration is set to bring officials from across the state, including Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll. Here's what to know.
SANDWICH, MA — A celebration for the reopening of the historic Sandwich boardwalk is set to bring major players from across the state to Cape Cod this week.
Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll and other local and regional officials will be in Sandwich on Wednesday for a celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony at the boardwalk, scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
The ceremony will take place at the Boardwalk Road parking lot, but officials say residents should look to park in the larger Town Neck Beach parking lot.

The Boardwalk Road parking lot will be closed for the day, opening 30 minutes before the event with "very limited parking."
The boardwalk needed to be replaced as officials said the "beams, posts, bracing and metal fasteners have exceeded their useful life." These factors meant the boardwalk could have become a safety concern.

Sandwich's first historic boardwalk was constructed in 1875 but was updated, repaired and even replaced before this project. It serves as a footbridge to Town Neck Beach and a place for residents to jump into the water.
That final piece will be maintained, officials said, as ladders and longer planks for jumping are present after the repair project.
