Berklee Tops Off New 16-Story Mass Ave. Building

Berklee College of Music held a topping off ceremony for its new 16-story building at 160 Massachusetts Avenue on Tuesday.

The new building will include 370 beds of student housing, enabling the college to house all of its entering students for the first time. 

Students will share two-story community rooms, practice and ensemble rooms and a small fitness center. It will also include a 400-seat dining hall and evening performance venue, ground floor retail space, and recording studios and other music technology spaces two levels below grade. 

The event included remarks from Berklee President Roger Brown, Peter Meade of the Boston Redevelopment Authority, and Berklee trustee Jeff Shames. The final beam, adorned with a traditional pine tree, was on the ground for signing all day before being raised and placed on top of the building. 

The project's estimated total cost is $100 million. The building will open at the start of the fall 2013 semester.
