Boston University Announces Commencement Speaker
See who will headline the university's 140th graduation ceremony.

Boston University announced last week that Wendy Kopp, founder of Teach For America will deliver the university's 2013 commencement address.
BU's graduation ceremony will be held on May 19th at Nickerson Field.
Kopp, a native of Austin, Texas, founded Teach for America out of her undergraduate thesis at Princeton University in 1989. Since then, Teach For America’s nearly 38,000 participants have reached more than three million children nationwide during their two-year teaching commitments.

Kopp is also chief executive officer and co-founder of Teach For All, a global network that recruits and develops future leaders to commit two years to teach in high-need areas.
Kopp is also the author of the A Chance to Make History: What Works and What Doesn’t in Providing an Excellent Education for All and One Day, All Children: The Unlikely Triumph of Teach For America and What I Learned Along the Way.

BU will honor several others at its 2013 graduation with honorary degrees, including actor Morgan Freeman (Doctor of Humane Letters), and the David H. Koch Institute Professor at MIT Robert S. Langer (Doctor of Science). In addition, Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino (HON ’01) will be honored at commencement with a Boston University Medallion for his service to the community.
