DA Conley in Support of Tighter Gun Policies

The policies include the restriction of access to assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in the civilian market.

Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley joined the American College of Physicians on May 1 in support of reasonable policies to mitigate the rate of firearm-related injuries and deaths in the United States.

Conley, a leader in law enforcement’s response to gun-related violence, spoke from a prosecutor’s perspective as the ACP and more than two dozen other medical, legal, and advocacy groups endorsed the policy recommendations, which were published in Annals of Internal Medicine earlier this year.

  • requiring background checks for all firearm purchases
  • restricting access to assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in the civilian market
  • increasing access to mental health services
  • providing proper funding for agencies to study the effects of gun violence and unintentional injury on public health

Conley is the chief law enforcement official for Boston, Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop.
