Berklee City Music honors Will Power, award-winning playwright and performer, at its 10th annual Unsung Heroes Breakfast, “Empowerment Through Art,” recognizing those who have made significant contributions to the local community as educators, artists, and through activism. Spotlighted for his work in the development of critical consciousness as a playwright and performer, Berklee City Music adds Power to the esteemed Unsung Heroes honor roll that includes some of our greatest community leaders such as First Lady of Massachusetts, Diane Patrick, pediatrician and women and children activist, Dr. Gloria White- Hammond, Dr. Ernest Morrell, Director of Columbia University Institute for Urban and Minority Education and Freedom Riders who supported the civil rights movement.
Berklee City Music's Unsung Heroes Breakfast takes place Saturday, January 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Berklee's David Friend Recital Hall, located at 921 Boylston Street, Boston. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP is requested by January 12 to Hebert Labbate at 617-747-2447 or hlabbate@berklee.edu.
Power will address this year’s “Empowerment Through Art” theme in a discussion about the impact of arts and education as an agent of change, how the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement influences today’s socio-economic environment, and how he became civically involved in his community. The forum-style event will include a presentation from Power and open question time for guests. In addition, the Berklee City Music All Stars will be on hand to perform.
