Police Investigating Death of BU Student

Boston Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney's office are continuing an investigation into the sudden death of a Boston University freshman on Saturday morning.

The student, Anthony Barksdale II, was an engineering student who lived in the Towers residence on campus and was a graduate of Souhegan High School in 
Amherst, N.H., according to BU Today and Amherst Patch. 

Boston Police said Barksdale was found unconscious inside an Allston apartment on Wadsworth Street around midnight on Friday night. Police said there were no visible injuries and foul play is not suspected, although police said that alcohol may have been a factor in his death. 

Barksdale was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, where he died three hours later, according to Boston University officials. 

Barksdale was a standout student at Souhegan High, where he graduated in 2012. He played varsity basketball and football during his time at the high school, and earned a scholarship to study engineering at BU. He also became a member of the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity at the university, according to Amherst Patch. 

“Whenever there is a death of one of our own it affects all of us,” Dean of Students Kenneth Elmore said in a university statement. “Our entire community is deeply saddened. I hope that students will look out for each other. I hope they will use the resources that are available here, and I hope they reach out to friends, parents, and loved ones.”
