Dog Trainer Denies Killing Ex-Patriot Jerod Mayo's Dog
Knox was found in the Cranston home of dog trainer Amelia Ferreira, but she said she didn't kill the 5-year-old English bulldog.

WRENTHAM, MA — The dog trainer whose home former New England Patriot Jerod Mayo's dog Knox was found in is denying that she hurt or caused the death of the English bulldog.
In a six-page statement emailed to the Sun Chronicle, Amelia Ferreira wrote that she was a coward for not being honest and it eats at her every day.
Ferreira originally told Wrentham Police in June that Knox went missing at Joe's Rock in Wrentham while she was attending to another dog. A search of the area didn't turn up Knox, only his e-collar with no signs that it was torn off or removed with force. Wrentham Police said at the time that the circumstances were a bit mysterious and there was no blood or fur found near the collar and no sounds were heard, no growling, barking, or yelping.

The body of Knox was found inside Ferreira's home in the Edgewood neighborhood of Cranston earlier this month and Ferreira allegedly admitted that the dog died in her care, police said. The dog's body was found in a trash bag.
A police report indicates that Ferreira found Knox dead on June 22 when she went to feed him. She originally intended on claiming her husband, who is facing a domestic assault charge, but is now telling what she says is the truth because she is scared of having her own dogs taken away.

Ferreira is not expected to face any more charges due to an inconclusive necropsy. No evidence of trauma was observed on a full body radiography.
Ferreira is facing an obstruction charge in Cranston and is scheduled to appear in Wrentham District Court on a charge of filing a false police report.
