ELECTION RESULTS: Foxborough Favored Republicans at Polls Tuesday

Democrats won big in Tuesday's election both in Massachusetts and across the country, but the party did not fare so well in Foxborough.

The town saw 86 percent (9,776) of its 11,403 registered voters at the polls Tuesday and the majority voted Republican in 3 of the ballot's 5 races, including the state's two biggest races.

While Barack Obama overwhelmingly won the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' 11 electoral votes, he did not win the majority of Foxborough's votes ... but it was close. 

In Foxborough, Mitt Romney took 4,798 votes over Obama's 4,745 in the closest race in town on Election Tuesday.

In the U.S. Senate race, Foxborough favored Republican Scott Brown (5,889) over Democrat Elizabeth Warren (3,783) by a wide margin but it was Warren who won the seat to represent Massachusetts.

Foxborough did favor a Democrat in the Congressional and State Senate races but went Republican in the state's Governor's Council Second District. Voters chose Earl Sholley (4,151) over Democrat Robert Jubinville (3,888). Jubinville went on to win the seat on the Governor's Council.

In the race for the Fourth Congressional District, Foxborough favored Democrat Joseph Kennedy III (4,842) over Republican Sean Bielat (4,413),

In the State Senate race, Democrat James Timilty was re-elected, defeating Republican challenger, Jeff Bailey. In Foxborough, Timilty defeated Bailey 5,448-3,267.

As for the state's three ballot questions, Foxborough favored two:

• Question 1: Right to Repair - YES, 7,317-1,028.
• Question 3: Medical Marijuana - YES, 5,689-3,737.

Foxborough rejected Prescription of Life-Ending Medication (Question 2), 5,037-4,426.
