Fox Invasion!

Bunnies hopped into Dedham, Lobsters crawled around Plymouth and this summer, Foxes will trot through Foxborough

The Foxborough Cultural Council is proud to announce a public art, tourism and charitable event that will display five adorable artist-decorated foxes for the community to enjoy. The Foxborough Cultural Council (FCC), a local town government agency, is organizing an outdoor display of artist-painted, four-foot fox sculptures that will delight visitors of all ages to the uptown area. The goal of the FCC is to promote the enjoyment of community and arts in the town with this inviting FOX-IN-THE-BORO art walk.

A map of the FOX-IN-THE-BORO will lead folks around uptown Foxborough to find each fox and recognize the participating artists and sponsors. After a duration of two years, the foxes of FOX-IN-THE-BORO will be auctioned off to raise funds for future artistic projects and events within the Foxborough community. Public Art displays have been very successful ventures for local arts and culture groups in both small and large communities across the country, and specifically in New England. The Plymouth Lobster Crawl was sponsored by local businesses from within the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and played a significant role in the town’s tourism with its 29 5-foot-tall lobster sculptures. Their exhibition lasted over 2 years, before they were auctioned off to the public - the proceeds benefitted the Chamber’s current art walk, The Scallop Roll.

FCC has partnered with Icon Poly, a family-owned fabrication company who has helped enrich the arts in hundreds of cities with paintable outdoor sculptures. Thanks to a generous grant from Partners in Patriotism, the FCC was able to commission the fox prototype last fall. Icon Poly’s artist worked with the FCC’s specifications and budget to create an adorable sitting fox with a turned head to engage with each visitor. Icon Poly is molding the foxes, which are due to arrive in Foxborough this spring ready for artists to transform them. The FCC is 50% to their sponsorship goal and is still looking for additional funding for this project. Individuals or businesses interested in sponsoring the project can reach out to Tiffany Elliott evansty@gmail.com or send a check to Foxborough Cultural Council, Town Hall 40 South Street Foxborough, MA 02035.

Foxborough artist, Sarahjane Cassie has already participated in two other similar projects. She painted two bunnies for DEDHAM BUNNIES and two cows for Boston’s COW PARADE. She recalls how comical it was to have 2 six-foot cows living in her kitchen while she painted them. Sarahjane has already inquired about applying to paint a FOX-IN-THE-BORO fox.

The Foxborough Cultural Council is currently inviting artists to apply to be one of the select few to decorate a fox. Applications can be found on the Foxborough town site, https://www.foxboroughma.gov or paper copies are available in the lobbies of Foxborough Town Hall, Boyden Library and Council on Aging. EMAIL APPLICATION AND VISUAL PROPOSALS CAN BE SENT TO: FOXBOROCC@GMAIL.COM or MAIL TO: FOX-IN-THE-BORO, 33 Prospect St, Foxboro, MA 02035 deadline to apply is midnight, February 3, 2023
