Foxborough Selectman DeVellis Announces Run for Re-Election

Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis has announced his plans to run for re-election this spring, becoming the fourth candidate for one of two seats on the board.

DeVellis announced his decision through the following open letter to the community Thursday morning:

To the residents of Foxborough,

It has been a privilege to serve the people in our hometown of Foxborough, and I would be honored to have your support in continuing my service and commitment for another term as your selectman.

My wife Nicole and I chose to work, live, and raise our three children here. For me the balance of family, a small business here in town, and serving each of you as selectman has been a blessing. Of course I could never have anticipated the time commitment or the issues that would come in front of me during my first term! I hope people feel that I have been fair, open, and  represented them well. 

I have been very busy working hard for you and our town. The recession, the casino, four major storms, the retirement of our long serving town manager, restructuring the municipal departments and the list goes on. I am extremely proud to say I did not miss one single meeting during my first three-year term.

Right now I am deeply involved with several very important and complex town items before the Board of Selectmen that directly impact the health and well being of our town. I believe Foxborough is well positioned to thrive in the coming years and I want to finish what we have started.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve and I ask for your vote once again this spring.

DeVellis joins fellow and residents Richard Letson and John Gray Jr. in the race for selectman. A resident becomes an official ballot candidate after Town Clerk Robert Cutler verifies 50 voters have signed the candidate’s nomination papers. Candidates have until March 18^th to submit signed papers.

Letson worked for the Kraft Group as a part-time security guard at Gillette Stadium for the 2011-2012 New England Patriots football season and reportedly opposed a casino in Foxborough, according to the March 2012 Sun Chronicle article.

Gray Jr., president of Biomedical Structures, currently serves on Foxborough’s Advisory Committee with his term expiring in June 2014. He served as AdCom’s chair in 2011. He has set up a Facebook page and Twitter account promoting his candidacy.

• School Committee (two-year term): This seat is currently held by Christina M. Belanger, who replaced Catherine Kominsky in July. This is a two-year term because Belanger served the first year of Kominsky's three-year term. 
• Water & Sewer Commissioner (three-year term): This seat is currently held by William C. Euerle, who has informed the town he plans to retire at the end of his fourth term this May.
• Board of Health (three-year term): This seat is currently held by vice chair Eric S. Arvedon.
• Planning Board (three-year term): This seat is currently held by Ronald P. Bresse.
• Board of Assessors (three-year term): This seat is currently held by Robert J. Hadge.
• Boyden Library Trustee (three-year term): This seat is currently held by Jeffrey M. Lovely.

Nomination papers, which can be picked up at Town Hall, must be submitted to the Town Clerk’s office no later than March 18 at 5 p.m. The election is scheduled for May 6.
