Patriot Place Named MassRecycle’s Recycler of the Year
Sustainability efforts in 2015 diverted 640 tons of material from landfill & conserved enough electricity to power 131 homes for a year.

From Waste Management: Waste Management (NYSE: WM) today joined its client and partner, Patriot Place, as they accepted the award of Recycler of the Year – Business Category from MassRecycle. The award was presented at the 22nd Annual Recycling Awards which took place during the 2017 R3 Recycling & Organics Conference & Trade Show at the Sheraton in Framingham, Mass. According to MassRecycle, the Recycler of the Year Award is given to a business that has developed and operates an outstanding recycling/waste reduction program that increases recycling and/or reduces waste generated by their business.
Since 2014, the management team at Patriot Place, along with managers at all tenant businesses, made a commitment to increase recycling, separate and collect organics for compost and reduce the amount of material it disposes of. After months of planning and training employees, their commitment to the program has shown amazing results.
The sustainability efforts in 2015 diverted a total of 640 tons of material from landfill and conserved enough kW-hrs of electricity to power 131 homes for a full year. The recycling of those materials also prevented 333 metric tons of CO2 greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, Patriot Place reduced its waste by 330 tons and increased recycling by 166 tons. In 2016, Patriot Place diverted nearly 660 tons of waste from landfill, ending with a 44 percent landfill waste diversion rate.

Accepting the award on behalf of Patriot Place and all of its tenant businesses, Brian J. Earley, General Manager at Patriot Place said, “Patriot Place is committed to being a leader in sustainable growth and we are proud of the results we have seen through our partnership with Waste Management and its Total Recycle Program. This award would not be possible without the leadership of Patriot Place’s Operations Management Team in partnership with our tenants. We are honored to accept this award and will continue to strive towards excellence in materials management and sustainability.”

Executive Director of MassRecycle, Edward Hsieh, complimented Patriot Place on its outstanding achievement in and contribution towards recycling in MA. “Last year, Patriot Place was a runner up for this award and with its continued diligence in materials management, Patriot Place is now the first shopping center to receive the MassRecycle coveted Recycler of the Year award for its waste, recycling and organics leadership in the industry,” Edward remarked.
