FOXBOROUGH, MA — The Patriots have cut iconic center David Andrews, the team announced Thursday.

Andrews spent 10 years in New England after signing as an undrafted rookie from the University of Georgia.

He quickly became a fixture along the offensive line, being named a captain after two years and winning two Super Bowls with the team. Andrews was the starting center for a top 10 offense in each of his first four seasons.

He is a member of the 2010s All-Decade Team at center and the 2020 recipient of the Ron Burton Community Service Award.

Last year, Andrews was limited to four games and four starts at center due to injury, and retirement rumors had swirled around him recently.

"David Andrews' career success is a shining example of what every NFL prospect should strive to achieve," said Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft.

He continued:

"As a rookie free agent, David earned a starting assignment at center in his NFL debut, a position he anchored for the next decade. His leadership, work ethic, and dedication to the team earned him the respect and admiration of his coaches and teammates, who elected him as an eight-time team captain. The importance of his leadership during his career cannot be overstated. David is a true professional, and his impact on this organization will be felt for many years to come. On behalf of the entire Kraft family and the New England Patriots, I want to express my deepest gratitude for his countless contributions, and we look forward to celebrating his remarkable career."

Andrews' departure signals the team's continued rebuilding of the offensive line to support young quarterback Drake Maye.

The team signed Morgan Moses in free agency and will almost certainly look to bolster the line as free agency continues, and in the upcoming NFL Draft.
