Proposals Wanted For Old Fire Station, Funeral Home

What should become of the properties?

FOXBOROUGH, MA — If you have an idea for what should happen to the former Foxborough Fire Station and Keating Funeral Home, the town wants to hear from you.

The town recently released a request for proposal (RFP) for the two properties, with the hope that it can be turned into a mixed-use development.

According to the timeline within the RPF, two pre-building walkthroughs were scheduled for August, with an Aug. 17 deadline for questions. All proposals are due Sept. 28 with municipal conversion permit applications due within 60 days of a proposal being selected. No sale can take place unless the permit is issued.

Past attempts to get the land out of town ownership have been unsuccessful. A 2014 RFP didn't turn up a single response and Mark Duffy and his mother Judy Duffy of nearby Judy Flowers purchased the property in a 2015 auction, but the sale fell through after the town and the potential buyers couldn't agree on the use for the land.

Both properties have remained vacant for years, but town officials are hoping that whoever makes the purchase can help continue the revitalization of the downtown area, which has seen the return of the Orpheum Theatre, now known as the Marilyn Rodman Performing Arts Center and the arrival of O'Reilly Auto Parts.
