Sun Chronicle, Foxboro Reporter Sold

The newly formed TriboroMassachusetts News Media Inc. has agreed to buy the papers from the Wisconsin-based United Communications Corp.​

The Sun Chronicle and sister paper Foxboro Reporter have been sold to new ownership, the paper announced today.

The newly formed TriboroMassachusetts News Media Inc. has agreed to buy the papers from the Wisconsin-based United Communications Corp., which has owned the Sun Chronicle since 1969 and the Foxboro Reporter since 1987. The deal also includes two free weekly papers.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed, according to an announcement from the Sun Chronicle.

“The Brown family has been proudly associated with the Attleboro community for almost 50 years,” Lucy Brown, CEO of United Communications Corp., said in a release “In 1969 my dad, the late Howard J. Brown, bought the Attleboro Sun, which two years later merged with the North Attleboro Chronicle to become The Sun Chronicle.”

Like almost every local newspaper, the Sun Chronicle and Foxboro Reporters have struggled with declining subscription numbers and revenue. Current numbers peg the regional paper's print circulation at about 10,400.

The new owners will retain all current employees with no changes to the daily operation planned.

TriboroMassachusetts News Media Inc. is run by Canadian newspaper executive Steven Malkowich and owns newspaper across the United States and Canada.
