Pickers, Fiddlers Flock to Framingham for Bluegrass Festival

The Joe Val Bluegrass Festival drew area fans of the genre to Framingham.

More than 900 bluegrass musicians visited Framingham on Saturday to attend the 28th Annual Joe Val Bluegrass Festival.

"Boston is a hotbed for bluegrass," Reuben Shetler, an organizer of the event, said.

The three-day event featured some of the nation's most popular bluegrass artists and provided space for area vendors to sell guitars, violins and banjos.

Workshops led by professional musicians let attendees walk away with a bit of education in their preferred instrument and a close encounter with some of their favorite artists.

The biggest draw of the event, Shetler said, is the chance for attendees to meet fellow bluegrass lovers and play their instruments alongside hundreds of enthusiasts of the genre.
