University of Southern Maine Defeats Framingham State 82-72

WORCESTER, MA - Tournament MVP Meg Pelletier finished with a monster double-double and the University of Southern Maine laid claim to the 2015 Clark University Alumni Invitational with an 82-72 win over Framingham State on Thursdayafternoon at the Kneller Athletic Center.

The Huskies used a strong final period to pull away from a game that was tied at 60-60 after the first three quarters. Pelletier was the difference in the final frame, scoring ten of her game-high 28 points in the process.

Framingham State (7-4) came out on fire, scoring 30 points in the first quarter, but their offense bogged down somewhat and they only managed 30 points over the next two quarters including just nine in the second stanza where Southern Maine outscored them by 11 to take a 42-39 halftime lead.

After back-to-back Alycia Rackliffe jumpers got the Rams to within four at 76-72 with just under three minutes to play, the Huskies clamped down and didn’t let FSU score again, and Pelletier put the game away with a pair of strong inside hoops.

Neither team cracked the 40 percent mark on field goal percentage but the Huskies did connect on 45 percent of their second half attempts.

In addition to her 28 points, Pelletier added a game-best 14 rebounds to go along with three steals and three blocks.

Framingham State was paced by another double-double from Rackliffe, who racked up 16 points, 13 rebounds and five steals. Meanwhile, both Lauren Donahue and Raegan Mulherin registered 15 points and Mulherin adding a game-best seven assists.
