Devils Defeat Flyers 4-2

Framingham High boys ice hockey plays Medford in the consolation game of the Cahoon tournament Thursday night in Burlington.

BURLINGTON, MA - The Framingham Flyers boys hockey team fell to Burlington 4-2 Tuesday night in the opening round of the Cahoon Tournament in Burlington. Both teams entered the game with just 1 loss and each highly ranked in several polls.

The Flyers withstood an early Burlington surge and after a big save by Flyer goalie Owen Parker Framingham opened up the scoring with 7:57 left in the first period. Scottie Swennes brought the puck down the right wing inside the Burlington zone, fought around the Red Devils defenseman and slid a pass to lineman Tyler Anes who put the puck past the Burlington goalkeeper to put the Flyers up 1-0. Burlington tied the game minutes later and the first period ended 1-1.

With 4:46 left in the second period Burlington took a 2-1 lead, scoring after extended pressure in the Flyers zone. The Flyers had several good scoring opportunities but couldn’t capitalize. The second period ended 2-1.

The Red Devils came out strong in the final period, extending their lead to 3-1 off a 2-on-1 rush just 4 minutes into the period.

Two minutes later, the Red Devils opened their lead to 4-1 off a tip from a shot from the point.

The Flyers would not quit. With 7:06 left, Scott Hall scored on a skirmish infront of the Burlington goalie. The Flyers won a puck battle along the right wing boards, moved the puck to the net for a couple of shots before Hall put the puck in. Colton CHassie and Jamie Brigham assisted on the goal. The Flyers kept coming, ramping up their forecheck and pulling goalie Owen Parker for an extra skater with 1:49 left in the game, but Burlington held off the Framingham attack to hold onto the 4-2 win.

Flyer goalie Owen Parker played a strong game, making a number of high profile saves.

With the loss, the Flyers record drops to 13-2-4.
