'Drive-Thru' Flu-Vaccine Clinic Scheduled for Sept. 20

After displaying a health-insurance card and signing a consent form, you can roll down the window, roll up your sleeve and get your annual flu shot, administered by a registered nurse, without leaving your car.

Keeping your family healthy this season will be a bit easier for those who visit MetroWest Physician Services’ 2nd annual "Drive-Thru” Flu-Vaccine Clinic on Thursday, Sept. 20 from 2 to 6 p.m. at its 260 Cochituate Rd location in Framingham.

Vaccine recipients can drive into the parking lot, where they will be greeted by staff. After displaying their health-insurance card and signing a consent form, they can roll down their window, roll up their sleeve and get their annual flu shot, administered by a registered nurse, without leaving their car, said the Framingham-based medical company.

Seventy-five community members received shots during last year’s successful event.

In addition to receiving their vaccination, recipients will have the opportunity to speak with physicians, who will be on hand to answer questions relating to the vaccine and the flu.

Flu seasons are unpredictable and have the potential to hit hard.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an average of 5 to 20 percent of Americans get the flu each year and more than 200,000 people are hospitalized annually from seasonal flu-related complications.

“Receiving a flu vaccination and encouraging family members to do the same is the first step to avoiding the flu and staying healthy this fall and winter,” said Scott Disch, Director of MetroWest Physician Services. “We encourage the general public to take advantage of the convenience of our drive-thru clinic.”
