Flash Freeze Warning For Evening Commute, Tuesday Night

MassDOT Highway is warning drivers of potentially hazardous road conditions as a flash freeze warning is in effect.

MassDOT Highway is warning drivers of potentially hazardous road conditions as a flash freeze warning is in effect. With temperatures dropping and freezing rain conditions continuing across many regions of the state, MassDOT urges drivers to slow down and use caution when driving.

“While this storm brought about the amount of precipitation we expected, we continue to urge drivers to drive carefully, to reduce speed, and to be mindful of the potential for ice on the roads,” said Highway Administrator Thomas J. Tinlin, in a press release. “While most folks are not unfamiliar with driving in snowy conditions, this is still the first storm of the season, and we want everyone to get home safely.”

As MassDOT Highway Division remains in post-storm cleanup operations, transportation officials continue to emphasize safe driving as the evening commute approaches.

There will also be restrictions on tandems and propane trailer tractor units and a speed reduction along the Mass Pike of 40 miles per hour from NY border to Sturbridge (Interchange 9) through 9p.m.

Additionally, MassDOT will deploy additional spreaders as the flash freeze warning is in place.

“While troopers responded to numerous spinouts and minor crashes, there were no serious injuries,” said Colonel Richard D. McKeon. Colonel Mckeon also echoed MassDOT Administrator Tinlin’s reminder about caution during the evening commute.

Drivers are encouraged to prepare vehicles for winter driving, to have winter car supplies and follow our safe driving tips.

MassDOT also reminds drivers to use common sense while driving near snow plows, and remember that the road in front of the plow is usually much worse than the roadway behind the plow.
