“Though the wing received a safe indoor air quality rating, there were elevated moisture readings and an accompanying smell that does not provide an appropriate environment for our students and staff,” according to an email sent to parents.

Kindergarten and first grade classrooms will be moved to Fuller Middle, across the street from the elementary school.

Diligent planning by many staff throughout the week has led to the following plan to support our McCarthy students, parents and staff:

  • Kindergarten and first grade classrooms will be moved to Fuller Middle School
  • Fuller 7th graders in C-Wing will be moved to other classrooms
  • McCarthy students at Fuller will have the following:
    • Their own wing that will not be accessed by middle school students
    • Their own bathrooms that will not be accessed by middle school students
    • Their own entrance and side to the lunchroom along with their own lunch line
    • The same arrival and dismissal procedures (at McCarthy Elementary)
    • The same support services – nurse, special education, Title I, etc.

Most likely, this plan will be in place until the end of the school year.

However, there will be continuous assessments and updates.

Students in both schools will be spoken to directly by their building administrators on Monday.

There will also be an invitation to a parent information night for this Wednesday evening, February 24.

“Obviously, this a logistical and educational challenge for all involved. However, our school teams are quite dedicated to meeting the needs of our students and staff during this time of transition,” wrote the email to parents and staff.
