Flyer Squirt C Youth Hockey Team Wins State Title

Earlier this month the Squirt B team won the state title; Sunday it was the Squirt C team who captured the state title.

The won the 2012 Massachusetts Tier IV Hockey Championship Sunday in Waltham.

Framingham has not held this title in 13 years. The last Framingham Squirt Tier IV team to win this title was in 1999.

Framingham, which won the District 8 tournament in January, competed in preliminary games on Friday and Saturday.

After a 1-1 tie against Arlington in their first game, Framingham never looked back. Framingham had a commanding victory over Holy Name in the second round, and then defeated Franklin (2-1) to advance into the semi-final round.

Framingham had a shut out win skating past Plymouth 3-0 in the semi-finals.

Moving into the state championship game, Framingham battled Waltham on Waltham's home ice. Red & White supporters that filled the stands and lined the boards Sunday.

Waltham took an early 1-0 lead, but Framingham battled back and took control, winning the game 5-3.

Members of this year's championship team are Babak Amini, Thomas Casale, Michael Dervin, Robert Downing , Kiley Dustin, Brett Erwin, Kaylee Hall, Jake Handy, Brendan Hermanspan, Tyler Hill, Nathan James, Brad Juliani, Jack Lanzillo, Nolan McGovern, Caroline Stacey and Ryan Urato

The head coach is Joe Casale, with assistant coaches Craig Dustin and Jason Hill.
