Flyers Set School Record; Finish Third in Elite Meet

Runners Leche Small-Brown, Jenny Ribeiro, Zoie Carter, and Olivia Rothenberg broke the Framingham High record in the 4X200 relay at the Coaches Elite Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center on Sunday.

The Flyers finished third in the event, behind Woburn who won at 1:46.67 minutes and Springfield, second.

The Flyers school record time was 1:47.635 minutes.

“It was a day of redemption for the Flyers, getting even with Newton North in the 4x200 after they barely edged the Flyers in the D1 State Relays,” said Framingham High indoor track head coach Chris Collins.

The Tigers of Newton North finished fourth at 1:47.640 minutes.

“The Flyers won by thousandths of a second in a long-reviewed photo-finish,” said Collins.

Other highlights in the meet, said Collins was the boys 4X200 relay, which had its “best time of the season, winning their heat.” The team of senior Nick Benoit, senior Cam Klein, junior Chigozie Nna, and Matt Kimmelstiel crossed the line 1:35.63 minutes. They finished 16th out of 24 teams, with Norton High winning the relay.

Senior captain Mike McDonald ran a 2:41 in the 1000 meter race.

“He got caught in heavy traffic most of the race,” said Collins. Wellesley High’s Matthew D’Anieri won the race in 2:32.71 minutes.

Framingham hurdler Ben Kirchman set a personal record in the 55 meter event at 8.26 seconds. He finished in 16th place out of 31 hurdlers. Scarlet Knight Erick Duffy of North Andover won the event in 7.78 seconds, with Littleton’s Erick Duffy finishing second at 7.79 seconds.

Framingham senior captain Hilda Kusi, coming off a back strain, ran a 7.7 second race in the 55-meter dash, said Collins.

Norton High’s Brooke Williams, a junior broke a 1978 meet record in winning the spring event in 7.06 seconds. The previous record was 7.10 seconds. Cambridge Ridge & Latin sprinter Brianna Duncan finished second in 7.08 seconds, with the third place finished at 7.26 seconds.
