Once inside the apartment, firefighters encountered ”heavy smoke and heavy heat”, said Deputy Chief Burns.
Firefighters found the fire in the bedroom, broke a few windows to reduce the heat in the apartment, and knocked down the fire quickly, explained Deputy Chief Burns.
No one was home at the time of the fire, and no one was injured said Deputy Chief Burns.
He said there was water damage to the two apartment below, and that occupants of all three apartments would be displaced. The deputy fire chief said the management of the complex believed it could house the occupants in other apartments for the night.
The deputy fire chief estimated damage at about $25,000.
He said cause of the fire was still under investigation.
Fire crews were on the scene for about two hours, which meant residents of the other apartments were outside during the emergency.
“The weather was in our favor today,” said Deputy Fire Chief Burns. “I’m glad we didn’t have to deal with this on Sunday with those temperatures, as the residents of the building were outside for a while.”
This past weekend, Framingham experienced record-breaking frigid temperatures below zero, with windchills as low as minus 35 degrees.
