FRAMINGHAM, MA – City and state officials will participate in an open house on Wednesday, March 23 at noon to celebrate the official opening of Anchored in Recovery, a Massachusetts peer recovery support center operated by the South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC).

Anchored in Recovery is the name selected by the first individuals who sought support at the recovery center, located at 19 Concord St., just before the COVID-19 pandemic caused the shutdown of most public facilities in 2020. While the center never fully opened until recently, tours of the center were available by appointment, and staff members were able to answer questions or provide information by phone.

The center provides individuals in recovery from substance use an opportunity to support their peers, help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery from addiction.

Julia Ojeda, Recovery Support Services Coordinator at the MA Department of Health’s Bureau of Addiction Services, will attend the Open House, along with City of Framingham officials and Susan Gentili, President and CEO of SMOC. Special guest speaker will be Kevin ‘Lucky’ Lewis, a peer volunteer at the recovery support center.

“SMOC is honored to be partnering with the MA Department of Public Health and the Bureau of Substance Addiction Services to create this center in Framingham where individuals will voluntarily build their own community of peer support as they each work through their recovery,” Gentili said. “We are excited to open the doors of this welcoming and safe haven, a place anchored in the shared mission to support each other in what we hope will be their long-term recovery.”
