Framingham Teen Arrested In Connection With UMass Lockdown, Assault

Cruisers swarmed a Nobscot neighborhood Thursday night looking for the suspect, and seized the car used to leave the college campus.

A Framingham teen turned himself into police on Friday afternoon, after an arrest warrant was issued for him in connection with the UMass Amherst lockdown and assault on Thursday night.

William McKeown, 19, of Water Street in the Nobscot section of Framingham turned himself into Framingham Police.

He was charged with armed robbery, assault and battery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Framingham Patch was also the first media outlet to publish the arrest of McKeown.

Friday afternoon, McKeown was held without bail by Framingham District Court judge David Cunis.

He was transported to East Hampshire District Court on Friday afternoon, where he will appear in court again on Monday.

McKeown did not appear in Framingham Court on Friday, at the request of his attorney Scott Busconi.

The vehicle McKeown and another suspect left the UMass campus in was found in Framingham Thursday night, near Water and Hemenway Streets, said Framingham Police Lt. Stephen Cronin. Framingham Patch was the first media outlet to break that news on Thursday morning.

Police searched two residences in that Nobscot neighborhood of Framingham Thursday night.

UMass instituted a shelter-in-place Thursday night, after two men with a gun assaulted a student on campus, officials said. A handgun was shown, but not fired, the school said.

The unidentified student was transported to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton with minor injuries that included a head laceration, UMass Police Chief Tyrone Parham said in a press conference Thursday night. He was treated and released.

Police swarmed Pierpont Hall on the college campus after calls came in at 5:17 p.m. Thursday.

Video evidence showed the two male suspects entering the Hall by a UMass student, according to police.

Dorms at UMass Amherst require a swipe card to gain access.

The Umass Police Chief said the attack was not random and the victim knew the suspects.
