FRAMINGHAM< MA - The Framingham State women’s basketball team defeated the visiting MCLA Trailblazers 53-40 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon in Framingham.

With the victory, the Rams move to 10-4 (3-1 Coference) and the Trailblazers fall to 9-6.

The Rams were paced offensively by junior Monta Connolly who registered a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Alycia Rackliffe also picked up a double-double scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds and added 7 blocks. Sophomore Quinn O’Connell picked up 10 points off the bench.

The Trailblazers were led by Karin Mattera with 12 points and Courtney McLaughlin with 10 points. Kayla Hotaling registered a game-high 16 rebounds.

The Rams came out of the gate hot leading 16-8 after one period and extending their lead to 32-11 a little over halfway through the second quarter. The Trailblazers started chipping away and a McLaughlin basket in the final minute of the third period cut the Rams lead to nine at 43-34.

The hosts countered with a Connolly layup before the quarter ended and rode a 10-0 run for the next 8 minutes to seal the victory.

The visitors struggled from the floor shooting only 20.8 percent (15-of-72) and only 9 percent from long range (2-of-22). The Rams scored from the floor at a 31.3 percent clip (21-for-67) and did not convert a three point shot on the day (0-for-9).

The Rams return to the court in for non-conference action at Lasell Thursday, January 21 at 7 p.m.
