Framingham Schools End Hockey Seasons Over Anti-Semitic Behavior

Keefe Technical High School and Marian High School have ended their hockey seasons after an investigation into anti-Semitic incidences.

FRAMINGHAM— Administrative officials at Keefe Technical High School and Marian High School have decided to end the hockey season, according to a letter from Keefe principal Shannon Snow.

The suspension comes on the heels of an investigation into anti-Semitic behavior from the players of the joint boys' hockey team.

Jonathan Evans, Superintendent of school district, told Patch, “Our investigation revealed a pervasive climate of disrespect that involved multiple student athletes from both schools. This behavior is inconsistent with the values of our school and expectations for our student athletes. In addition to suspending the season, we will be implementing an educational component for our students so that this will be a learning experience.”

In the letter to parents, Snow wrote, "I am both saddened and disappointed to report that the Keefe Tech and Marian High investigations found both anti-Semitic and extremely derogatory behavior and actions have occurred among players on the team during the season." The remainder of the letter states that there were multiple incidences, and "has been a pervasive issue with the team and that there has been an overall toxic and negative culture that has permeated the team dynamics."

The incidences were reported to the schools on Dec. 16, according to the Framingham Tab.
