O'Brien Named New Principal Of Framingham's Hemenway Elementary School

FRAMINGHAM, MA - Dr. Robert Tremblay, Superintendent of Schools, announced Thursday in a tweet that Marybeth O’Brien will become the new principal of Hemenway Elementary School effective July 1.

O’Brien is currently a principal at Gilmore Elementary School in the Brockton Public Schools. Prior to her current role, O’Brien held the principal and assistant principal roles at Huntington and Raymond Elementary Schools in Brockton.

“I am honored and humbled at the opportunity to serve as the educational leader of Hemenway Elementary School,” said O’Brien. “Through the selection process, I felt the genuine warmth of the Framingham Public Schools community.

"It has been evident that Hemenway is an inclusive environment demonstrating great pride," she continued. "I look forward to continuing my educational journey in the Framingham Public Schools to learn and grow alongside students, families, and fellow faculty and educators.”

Having received a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Political Philosophy from Northeastern University, she has a Master's Degree from Simmons University in Urban Education and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Educational Leadership and Administration from American International College. O’Brien is currently enrolled in the Boston College doctoral program for Educational Leadership.

The interview process for this position consisted of multiple parts, beginning with a staff and community survey. A screening committee, comprised of staff members and parents, met several times to refine interview questions and meet the candidates.

As a finalist, O’Brien then participated in a Meet the Candidates forum which afforded attendees to ask questions and provide feedback in a survey to Tremblay.

O'Brien will replace outgoing Hemenway Principal Liz Simon.
