SLIDESHOW: 100 Inducted into Framingham National Honor Society

"You help to set the tone at FHS," said advisor Susan Corcoran.

Nine members of the Class of 2016 and 93 members of the Class of 2017 were inducted into the Framingham High National Honor Society.

“Induction is a really exciting time of year. I’m fortunate now to work with 208 student leaders in the building,” said advisor Susan Corcoran.

National Honor Society is more than just an academic recognition. Selection is based on scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

“Giving back to your own community can have tremendous positive effects to the community and to the volunteer,” said Corcoran.

Two days a week, National Honor Society students offer extra help in the library after school. They also run a blood drive, a charity volleyball tournament, and a holiday drive for needy families in Framingham.

“You help to set the tone at FHS,” said Corcoran.

Master of Ceremonies for the induction ceremony was Secretary of Membership Hannah Greenberg.

Framingham High Principal Elyse Torbert spoke. The guest speaker was Framingham Downtown Renaissance Executive Director Holli Andrews.

The following four students lit a candle to symbolize scholarship, service, leadership, and character: Eric Bornstein, Grace Seta, Maeve O’Leary, and Noah Gelman.

All are officers and current members of the National Honor Society. Gelman is the National Honor Society’s current President.

Each of the 100 new inductees selected a teacher to welcome them into the Society.

Afterwards, all took the pledge:

“I pledge myself to uphold

The high purposes of the National Honor Society

to which I have been selected;

I will be true to the principals for which it stands;

I will be loyal to my school;

And will maintain and encourage

High standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.”

Editor’s Note: The photos and report are posting late, as the photo card was corrupted. I was able to fix it during the holiday week, and could save about 2 out of every 3 photos taken that November day.
