1 Grafton Common Completes First Phase

The building's exterior earns compliments.

One phase of the work at is completed and is earning raves from previously skeptical selectmen.

Board of Selectman chairman Peter Adams, who has raised questions about the project in the past, told project coordinator Paul Scarlett at last week’s selectmen’s meeting that the building is looking good.

Fellow selectman John Carlson, who acknowledged he also had concerns about the work in the past, shared his enthusiasm. “It’s looking spiffy,’’ he told Scarlett.

The next phase of the accessibility project involves installation of a limited use/limited access elevator. This will entail relocation of the air conditioner units, construction of an elevator enclosure and installation of the elevator, repaving of the back parking lot and completion of the rear entrance work from the prior phase, Scarlett reports.

This includes replacement of the rear entrance door, lowering the threshold elevation and installation of an automatic door opener and small interior ramp in the rear hall.  This work needed to be coordinated with the repaving of the lot due to the need to lower the threshold of the entryway, Scarlett said.

The completion of this work will allow for the completion of the automatic door lock project.  Auto locks were installed at the front entrance this past fall and, with completion of this rear entrance work, will also be able to be installed at the rear entrance.
