$1,000 for Car Wash Boosts Memorial

Donors come through for World War II memorial.

In just four hours, Grafton residents raised $1,250 for the World War II monument to be placed at the Common.

Cars were washed July 30 at the American Legion Delisle Goulet Post 92 for a $5 donation, but a number of people donated well over that amount, according to post adjutant Bruce Sweenie.

One person had his car washed, then returned with a check for $1,000, Sweenie said.

On behalf of the post, Sweenie thanked all residents for the support. He said that the post will continue to do everything it can to ensure the monument is placed at the Common.

The monument will carry the names of Grafton residents who were killed in World War II. No such monument exists in town.
