5 Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 31

National Grid offers advice for customers.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

Here are some things National Grid wants you to know about the current power outages.

1. Consider all downed wires to be energized and dangerous, including telephone, fiber optic and cable TV wires since they may be in contact with energized electric wires that are not within your view. Never go near downed power lines or fallen trees and tree limbs that could be entangled in wires that are not readily visible.
