A Little Slice of Heaven on Potter Hill

Visitors are encouraged to find peace at the sunrise sanctuary.

Sunrise sanctuary allows visitors to be alone with their thoughts _ and the occasional turkey or deer.

The sanctuary, located at the top of Potter Hill Road, is open to the public. The simple sanctuary features eight wooden benches and a stunning view of the sunrise, a colorful treeline and, on clear days, the Worcester skyline and Mount Wachusett.

The spot offers a rare chance for solitude in a hectic world. It is also a prime birdi-watching spot.

The sanctuary is maintained by the. The church hosts its annual sunrise Easter service at the location.

“People go there to meditate,’’ said Betty Wright, administrative chairman of the church. “It’s absolutely gorgeous up there.’’

Although the public is open to visit at any time, church members have set aside Sunday, Nov. 20 as a day to visit the sanctuary, savor the view and reflect on the blessings of the Thanksgiving season.
