During the Civil War, when Grafton's population was 4,000, nearly 400 local men enlisted to defend the Union. Sixty-four were killed or died of their wounds and are listed on the Civil War monument near Grafton Common.
's March program will introduce visitors to one Civil War soldier. Bill Cutler, a local Civil War re-enactor, will talk about the experiences of ordinary soldiers. He will describe the equipment, the uniforms, the individual battles, the prison camps and the other hardships of military life.
The program will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 25 at the 37 Wheeler Road, North Grafton. All are welcome.
