Election Day May Change

Voters will be asked to move town election to third Tuesday of May.

Town election day may be moved from the first Monday to the third Tuesday in May, if October Town Meeting voters agree.

The change would keep the current in place through the May Town Meeting, which is held the second Monday in May, Town Administrator Timothy McInerney said.

Selectman David Ross supported the idea. He said that, under the current dates, new selectmen come in to Town Meeting season without having worked on the issues.

This would give them more time to become familiar with the issues while allowing the previous board to complete issues for the Town Meeting, Ross said.

The date change would also put election days in line with the traditional Tuesday state elections, McInerney said.
