The in South Grafton will hold a flag retirement ceremony and fundraiser for the World War II monument at noon Sunday, Sept. 18 at the South Grafton Community House, 25 Main Street in South Grafton.
The program will include a free will offering as a fundraiser for Grafton’s proposed World War II monument.
According to VFW Post Commander Roland Miranda, “The United States Flag Code states that when individual flags are in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, that flag should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning. The ceremony also includes an empty chair designated as a place of honor for those lovers of Old Glory who have passed on or are too infirm to attend the ceremonies.”
