Flowers Brighten and Help Save Lives

Board of Health is selling daffodils to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Few things break through the gloomy grey-black of fading snow banks like bright yellow daffodils.

For the sixth year,  the Grafton Board of Health is selling daffodils to support the American Cancer Society.

Orders for daffodils can be placed through noon on March 1.  The daffodils will be distributed the week of March 14.

“People are so tired of the winter,’’ said Lois Luniewicz, the town’s health agent, who brought Daffodil Days to Grafton in 2006 and has been organizing the annual event since. “How can you not be cheered up by yellow flowers?

 Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Cancer impacts virtually everyone, she said.

“I don’t think anyone’s life has not been touched by cancer,’’ she said.

There are several options for Daffodil Days.

 Bouquets of 10 daffodils: $10

Bear and a bunch, with a 10-inch bear and 10 daffodils: $25

Potted daffodils in bloom, 3 multi-stem bulbs in a pot: $15

Gifts of Hope: Daffodil bouquets are made available to cancer patients: $25 (minimum donation)

Bear Hugs for Hope: Bears made available to children affected by cancer: $25 (minimum donation)

Boxes of 50 bouquets, 500 daffodils $500

“Flowers themselves are such a psychological boost,’’ Luniewicz said. “And knowing you are doing something worthwhile and supporting cancer research makes it so much better.’’
