Grandinetti Pleads Not Guilty to Child Assault

Her plea of "not guilty'' was firm and vocal.

April Grandinetti pleaded a firm and vocal “not guilty’’ in Worcester Superior Court this morning to charges she severely injured a baby in her care earlier this year.

Grandinetti, 38, of 22 Maple Ave., South Grafton, was arraigned on charges of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury and assault and battery on a child with substantial injury.

With attorney Andrea Levy at her side, she pleaded not guilty before Judge James R. Lemire. She was released on personal recognizance and ordered to have no contact with the complaining witness and her family, the judge ruled.

She is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing July 13.

The charges stem from an incident in January when Grandinetti, who operated a day care center in her home, reportedly caused severe injuries to a baby in her care.

The baby’s injuries reportedly included bleeding around the brain and eye and a detached retina, said Timothy Connolly, spokesman for Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

She relinquished her day care license after the incident, Connolly said.
