Heating Aid Fund Could Run Dry

The public is asked to help seniors in need.

Funds to help economically struggling seniors pay their heating bills may not last the winter and the public is asked to help.

The Friends of the Grafton Elders is asking the community for donations to its fuel drive to assist seniors with their heating bills during the cold winter months.

This fund has previously allowed the Friends to contribute $15,000 to assist low-income seniors over the last few years. The majority of this help was with 100-gallon oil deliveries.

Recipients of this help just miss qualifying for Southern Middlesex Opportunity Council guidelines, are in the transitional period waiting for approval from the council or have an immediate heating emergency.

More seniors will need help because of the poor economy and the increase in fuel prices.
