High School on Track for July Finish

The school remains on schedule to open in September, the board chairman reports.

The project remains on schedule and under budget, building committee chairman Rich McCarthy told School Committee members last night.

The project is about 70 percent completed, he said.

The key to the building should be turned over to the district by mid- to late July, McCarthy said.

"Substantial completion'' should be reached by early to mid-June, he said. This would give the contractor, DiMeo Construction, 30 days to complete its "punch list'' of details, he said.

The infrastructure has been completed and wiring is being done, he said. And "yes, we do have windows,'' he quipped. Holes cut into the building for windows had been covered with temporary material for some time before the windows were installed.

Walls have been painted and bookshelves installed, he said.

Trailers will soon move onsite to allow more work to be completed.

The tennis team will play at the site this spring, which is earlier than had been anticipated.

The district has the "monstrous job'' of moving everything into the building over the summer, he said.
