As the temperatures soared, town Recreation Director Betty Wright decided that residents deserved a chance to cool down.

From 2 to 7 p.m. yesterday, residents had the chance to swim, catch some rays and just relax.

Until the June 19 opening day, Wright will make "day-to-day'' decisions whether to open the beach, depending on the heat. She said that if the temperature is above 85, the beach will likely open from 2 to 7 p.m.
Beach stickers are required and can be obtained for $50 for the first vehicle and $20 for the second vehicle.
