Letter to the Editor: Library Means Bright Future

A library expansion sends a positive message, writer says.

As a seventh grader in , I want people to know how a kid feels about building a new library.  They already know they will have to pay more taxes, but I think it is selfish to not want a library for the next generation.

I honestly can’t remember the last time I went to the . It was probably three or four months ago because there is no place for kids who are teens; they only have places for young kids, who barely know how to read, and then a place for adults. I do have a library card and I love libraries but it hardly gets any use.

The library that brings back the most memories for me is the library in Worcester. The Worcester Public Library is a truly magnificent place to be.  It has a center for young children, a long strip of computers for teenagers and others who would like to use them; they even have meeting halls for different activities that people can do with their children. But the best part about this library is that they have millions upon millions of books.

But our current library in Grafton doesn’t have space for that many books. It is rather small as libraries go. It never seems to have enough room for children’s programs or for teenagers’ study area. Wouldn’t you like to see something like a Worcester Public Library built here?

No matter what we build for the town, we will have more taxes.  So why not use tax money to build something that would make a better and brighter future for our small town of Grafton. Because a library doesn’t just mean more taxes, it truly means a better future for our town.
