More Money for Tufts

Allocation for veterinary school is increased.

Chairman Tom Sannicandro, D-Ashland, has announced an additional $4.5 million for higher education in the FY2012 house budget, including additional funding for the in Grafton. 

In addition to a $1 million increase to the state’s scholarship/financial aid fund, the House allocated an additional $1 million dollars for its partnership with Tufts University to operate a school of veterinary medicine. It is the only school of its kind in the six New England states, and one of the few nationwide. 

This increased funding brings the total allocation up to $928, 673,715 and includes additional money for the state’s scholarship/financial aid program and funding for the Vision Project.

"I believe that investing in higher education pays dividends not only for our students and their individual well being and that or their families, but for economic success of the Commonwealth as a whole,” said Sannicandro, D-Ashland, House Chair of the Joint Committee on Higher Education. “Higher education is essential to maintaining the long term viability of our economy and the future standards of living not only for ourselves, but for generations to come.”.
