
The Shakespeare Club of Grafton is ready to launch its 23rd year with a kickoff meet and greet at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Brigham Hill Community Barn, 37 Wheeler Rd.
The meeting provides an opportunity for old friends and potential new members to welcome a season of fun and study of the Bard’s life, works and times.
Each year The Shakespeare Club of Grafton selects three or four plays for in-depth study. Among this year’s selections are “Much Ado About Nothing” and “As You Like It.’’

A producer leads discussion and adds insights while the characters are cast from among the club members. Reading the play aloud is a regular feature of the meetings.
Other frequent diversions include speakers, films and live performances by members and guests.

A highlight of the year is the celebration of the Bard’s birthday in April, with a costume ball filled with good food, games and other activities, including the crowning of a king and queen to reign over the festivities.

The annual business meeting and elections were held at in May. New officers include Cathy Thornton, president; Priya Rathnam, vice president; Donna Coleman, secretary; Diana Sullivan, treasurer; Sheila Granger, archivist; and Peg Ferraro, casting director.
