State Rep. George Peterson and his Republican colleagues in the House have announced the adoption of a local aid amendment, that, stands to distribute up to $65 million in onetime funding to local cities and towns.
If approved, and reversions to the General Fund reach past levels, Grafton stands to receive approximately $95,600 in onetime funding.
“Our cities and towns have had to make sacrifices all along, and this will bring unrestricted local aid back up to level funding,” Peterson said in a prepared statement. "I am pleased that we have continued to make local aid our number one priority. I urge the Senate to support this when they take up the budget.”

The House Republicans offered the proposal during the House budget debate. Having passed on a unanimous voice vote, the amendment seeks to distribute unused funding from Fiscal Year 2011 back to local cities and towns. Using the Lottery formula, the local aid amendment will allow half of the Commonwealth’s reversions, or $65 million, whichever is less, to be distributed to municipalities.
