
Fundraising for the World War II monument recently passed the $5,100 mark on the way to the goal of $8,500.

The Delisle Goulet American Legion Post 92 held a very successful car wash fundraiser July 31 for the World War II monument fund. The Legion post presented a check for $1,400 to the monument fund.Â

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1497 in South Grafton will hold a flag retirement ceremony and fundraiser for the World War II monument at noon Sunday, Sept. 18 at the South Grafton Community House, 25 Main St., South Grafton.Â
The monument has been ordered from Whitinsville Monumental Works in Northbridge. The company will be responsible for engraving and establishing the monument and its foundation at a place near the Grafton Common as determined by the Grafton Historic District Commission.Â

Five members of the Grafton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1497 including three World War II veterans recently taped a special episode of Grafton Community Television’s “Day Trip to History" to bring attention to the Monument Committee efforts. Â
Navy veteran Ed Such, Army veteran Al Amour, and Army Air Corps veteran Ken Larrivee joined host Bob DeToma to recount the stories of service to their country in World War II.Â
They joined Vietnam veterans Stan Stopyra and VFW Post Commander Roland Miranda on the program.
Grafton Community Television will air this episode on Charter Channel 11 and Verizon Channel 34 at noon Monday, Aug, 29, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1 and at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3.
Fundraising for Grafton’s World War II monument, to be dedicated near the Grafton Common on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, continues under the direction of the Grafton Historical Society and its World War II monument committee.
