Principal Named at New North Street School

Jennifer Mannion of Grafton will begin July 1.

The first principal of the new North Street School has been selected.

Jennifer Mannion will officially start July 1, Superintendent of Schools James Cummings has announced.

North Street School will be the new name of the building that now houses . The North Street School will house students in grades 2 through 6.

The middle school will move to the current Grafton High School building this fall, when the new high school building is opened.

Mannion has served as one of two assistant principals at the Florence Sawyer School in Bolton for the past two years. The Florence Sawyer School serves students in the Nashoba School District and houses grades kindergarten through eight.

As assistant principal of the Florence Sawyer School, Mannion developed a reputation as an exceptional, student-centered leader, Cummings said. She has a strong track record of working collaboratively to create positive and enriching learning environments for all students, staff, and parents, Cummings said.

Prior to becoming an assistant principal, Mannion spent ten years as a sixth grade teacher in the Northborough public schools.

She received her bachelor’s degree from American International College and a master’s degree in education from the University of Massachusetts. She lives in Grafton and has children attending the Grafton schools.

“I am confident that Mrs. Mannion is going to contribute greatly to the shaping and development of the new North Street School community. Her ability to bring people together, to foster collaboration, and to create meaningful learning environments for children will serve this community exceptionally well,’’ Cummings said in a prepared statement.

She will be spending time prior to her official start date meeting with parents, staff, and students and will play a role in student placements and hiring for North Street School.
